USA gives Israel 30 days to increase Aid in Gaza or face potential halt in military support
The United States has issued a stern warning to Israel, providing a 30-day ultimatum to significantly boost humanitarian aid in Gaza. Failure to comply could result in the suspension of military aid from the U.S.
The letter, sent on Sunday, marks one of the most strongly worded communications the U.S. has sent to its key ally, highlighting growing concerns over Israel’s military actions in northern Gaza, which have led to significant civilian casualties.
The letter, signed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, stresses the urgency for Israel to take immediate and permanent steps to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Washington is particularly alarmed by the continuous escalation of humanitarian needs, following Israel’s decision last month to reduce aid shipments by 90%.
The Israeli government is reportedly reviewing the U.S. request, with an official stating that Israel takes the matter seriously and will work with its ally to address concerns.
The situation on the ground remains dire. On Monday, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that 30 trucks carrying World Food Programme (WFP) aid crossed into northern Gaza through the Erez border, ending a two-week period during which no food aid was delivered, according to the UN.
However, concerns remain high, with UN officials stressing that northern Gaza is in dire need of rapid and sustained humanitarian assistance.
