Ugandan Soldier shoots and kills three civilians

On October 21, 2024, a Ugandan soldier from a special military unit, Pte Bony Ameny, shot six people, killing three in a tragic incident.

The victims include Florence Ajalo, 16, Akidi Santina, 52, and Sunday Apio, 19. The injured are Charles Kidega, Janet Apio, and Blessing Agenorwot.

According to the Daily Monitor, the shooting occurred in Paimol, Agago District, about 15 kilometers from the military base where Pte Ameny is stationed.

Reports suggest that the crime stemmed from a domestic dispute between Ameny and his wife. Allegedly, Ameny was enraged after discovering that his wife was still involved with her former partner, with whom she has a child, in Paimol.

Ameny is said to have gone to Paimol, kidnapped the man in question, and then started shooting at those who attempted to intervene.

After killing the three people, Ameny fled the scene. However, both the police and military are conducting an active manhunt to bring him to justice.

Agago District leader James Nabinson Kidega expressed his sorrow over the incident: "We lost three people in this unfortunate situation. This is not the right way to solve personal disputes. The military and police are searching for him, and he will be brought to justice once found."

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital in northern Uganda for post-mortem examinations.
