DRC: Dozens of Mugunga youth voluntarily Join the AFC/M23
On Thursday, May 5, the recruitment and mobilization team of the AFC/M23 carried out a community outreach operation in Mugunga, a district within Karisimbi Municipality in the city of Goma, aimed at encouraging local youth to join the Congolese Revolutionary Army (ARC).
Following this sensitization campaign, 33 young men and women aged between 18 and 30 voluntarily decided to enlist in the AFC/M23 forces. The mobilization was led by Mr. Rémy Segihombe, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of North Kivu Province and the team leader of the initiative.
The new recruits expressed their frustration with the ongoing insecurity in their neighborhoods, which they attribute to the presence and actions of Wazalendo militias and elements of the FARDC. According to them, these groups have instilled fear and instability rather than offering protection.
Addressing the residents of Mugunga, Mr. Segihombe urged the community to distance themselves from the enemies of peace and to report anyone still illegally in possession of firearms. He also cautioned the population against falling for misinformation and called for unity in pursuit of peace and security.
Speaking on behalf of the AFC/M23, Mr. Theophile Ruremesha, the Deputy Provincial Coordinator for Mobilization and Recruitment, expressed satisfaction with the outcome in Mugunga. He encouraged more hesitant youth to consider joining the ARC, describing it as a professional, disciplined army with a growing reputation for effectiveness.
