Donald Trump appoints Elon Musk to new U.S. government efficiency department

In a bold move, former President Donald Trump, who has been elected to lead the United States again, has announced the appointment of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk to head a new government oversight agency.

The department, officially called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is expected to begin operations in January 2025, following Trump’s inauguration as the successor to President Joe Biden.

According to Trump’s announcement, Musk will work alongside political newcomer Vivek Ramaswamy to streamline government operations and oversee public spending.

Together, they aim to modernize federal agencies and eliminate regulatory barriers to American progress.

"The DOGE will provide essential guidance to government entities, offering them strategies to operate more effectively and foster investment opportunities," Trump explained.

"This department will work closely with the President’s office and financial oversight bodies to drive reforms that benefit both the economy and American businesses."

The newly created agency is set to function temporarily, with its mission scheduled to conclude on July 4, 2026, in honor of America’s 250th Independence Day anniversary.

Trump expressed confidence that the agency’s achievements will serve as a lasting legacy for the nation.

Trump acknowledged Musk’s significant influence and promised him the leadership role in DOGE, a reward for Musk’s public endorsement of Trump’s campaign through the social media platform X, which Musk acquired in 2022.
