Rwanda to Host First-Ever Schools Festival Event

Rwanda is set to host its inaugural Schools Festival of Rwanda, an exhibition aimed at showcasing various educational innovations from schools across Africa. The event is expected to highlight the quality of education in Rwanda and provide a platform for schools from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, and other African countries to demonstrate the standard of education they offer.

This announcement was made on August 22, 2024, during a press conference held at Kigali Public Library in Kacyiru. The event is scheduled to take place from August 6 to 8, 2024, at Camp Kigali, where different schools will compete in various activities.

This highly anticipated event is expected to bring transformative changes to the education sector in Kigali and the region, with over 80 schools from Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya set to participate. The festival will feature an exhibition of different educational programs, student performances, parent-teacher discussions, and a detailed presentation of Rwanda’s educational journey. The event is supported by the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) and aims to foster collaboration among students, educators, and parents in promoting educational excellence in the region.

Sara Yisehak, a member of the organizing committee, emphasized the long-term impact of the event, stating: “This festival will leave a lasting legacy in education across the region, helping to deepen the understanding of young people, who are tomorrow’s leaders.” She added that her research revealed Rwanda’s strong potential as a hub for educational tools and techniques, further inspiring her to showcase Rwanda’s achievements to the world.

Brian Omben, another organizer, affirmed: “This first-ever Schools Festival in Kigali is a groundbreaking event that will reshape the way education is perceived, while also positioning Kigali as a center for quality education and knowledge sharing.”

Paul Birungi Masterjerb, an expert in education, encouraged Rwandan schools to actively participate in the event to demonstrate their role in preparing students for the global stage while also learning from other schools attending from different countries.

The festival will feature student exhibitions focused on various educational topics, sports and entertainment activities, discussions with parents, and student forums. There will also be opportunities for students to showcase their talents in literacy, numeracy, mathematics, biology, and other academic disciplines.
