Ntare Louisenlund School offers scolarship to 240 best students in academic year 2024-2025
The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) has announced that 240 students are offered scolarships to attend Ntare Louisenlund School for the 2024/2025 academic year.
Recently, the school’s administration released a statement introducing a new program focused on advanced Science and Technology education within the East African region. The program will follow a ’Plus-STEM’ curriculum, enabling students to engage in hands-on projects that address real-world challenges, preparing them to become future researchers and advisors capable of tackling 21st-century problems.
The statement highlighted that in September 2024, 240 exceptional students in Mathematics, Science, and Technology (STEM) who excelled in their primary school leaving exams would be granted the opportunity to compete for admission to Ntare Louisenlund School.
On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, MINEDUC announced the selection of these top 240 students as the best performers in the national exams. Minister of Education Gaspard Twagirayezu emphasized that Ntare Louisenlund School, a government initiative in Bugesera District, is set to launch with an international curriculum. He noted, “It is unusual for a government-built school to have this kind of program, but we wanted to create a space for both Rwandan and regional students, with some supported by the government.”
The Minister further explained, “Since the school will have a strong focus on technology, we prioritized students with outstanding performance in Mathematics. We have selected 240 students who excelled, and we are confident in their abilities.”
Some of the selected students expressed their excitement and gratitude for this opportunity. Vanessa Mahirwe Kazubwenge, who ranked fifth nationally and studied at Espoire de la Avenir in Bugesera, shared her joy, saying, “Ever since I learned about this school, it has been my dream to study there. I am confident that it will provide excellent education with great teachers. After my studies, I aspire to become a pilot.”
Another student remarked, “I am thrilled to be among those selected to study at Ntare Louisenlund School, an exceptional institution where President Paul Kagame also studied. I am eager to follow in his footsteps.”
The Ministry of Education will award scholarships to 80 Rwandan students admitted to Ntare Louisenlund School starting from September 2024, in Grade 7 (equivalent to the first year of secondary school). Students who receive scholarships will continue to benefit from them throughout their studies, provided they maintain the required academic standards.
Ntare Louisenlund School, which began construction in 2019 in Musagara Village, Kanazi Cell, Nyamata Sector, Bugesera District, is situated on over 40 hectares of land. It is an international-level school with a capacity to accommodate 1,100 boarding students. The school features 35 classrooms, each designed to hold 30 students, and five science laboratories.
The school was inspired by alumni of Ntare School in Uganda, where both President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda (1962-1966) and President Paul Kagame of Rwanda (1972-1976) studied.
